Cow & Sow | The Field Farmshop & Kitchen | Pop-Ups & Events

As our business continues to grow, we are looking for an ambitious and adaptable Roaming Sous Chef to work across our Cow & Sow sites in Bristol, our new venture The Field Farmshop & Kitchen, and future pop-ups, events and other opportunities across the business.

This is a varied and exciting role for a chef who enjoys being at the heart of a growing business and wants the opportunity to work across different kitchens, menus and formats while helping to maintain the standards and values that define our brands.

The Role

As Roaming Sous Chef, you will be a key part of our wider kitchen team, working across the business to support our Head Chefs and kitchen teams wherever you are needed.

  • Work across our two Cow & Sow restaurants, The Field Farmshop & Kitchen and selected pop-ups and events, providing flexible and experienced kitchen leadership.
  • Support the Head Chefs and senior kitchen teams in delivering consistently high standards across all locations.
  • Lead by example during preparation and service, ensuring food is cooked and presented to an exceptional standard.
  • Work with exceptional seasonal produce, including vegetables and produce grown on our own farm.
  • Help translate our approach to seasonality, provenance and quality across different menus and formats.
  • Take responsibility for sections and services when required, ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly, efficiently and professionally.
  • Support, motivate and develop junior members of the kitchen team, helping to create a positive and high-performing kitchen culture.
  • Maintain excellent standards of food preparation, organisation, cleanliness and food hygiene across every site.
  • Help ensure consistency in recipes, portioning, presentation and quality across the wider business.
  • Adapt confidently to different kitchens, teams, menus, service styles and guest requirements.
  • Support menu development and bring ideas and creativity to the wider kitchen team.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of pop-ups, events and new food concepts as the business continues to evolve.
  • Work closely with front of house, management, farm and wider business teams to ensure a joined-up guest experience.
  • Step into a leadership role when required, supporting the smooth running of a kitchen in the absence of a Head Chef or senior chef.

About You

  • Passionate about exceptional food, quality ingredients and genuine hospitality.
  • Excited by seasonality, provenance and working with produce at its peak.
  • An experienced and confident chef who can hit the ground running in different kitchen environments.
  • Comfortable taking responsibility for a kitchen, section or service and leading by example.
  • Organised, calm and capable of making good decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptable and positive, with the flexibility to move between different sites, teams and styles of service.
  • Detail-focused and committed to maintaining consistently high standards.
  • A strong communicator who can build positive relationships with different teams across the business.
  • Passionate about developing other chefs and contributing to a positive kitchen culture.
  • Curious and creative, with an interest in developing menus, dishes and new ideas.
  • Commercially aware, with an understanding of the importance of consistency, efficiency, waste reduction and kitchen organisation.
  • Professional, reliable and willing to get stuck in wherever needed.
  • Ambitious and excited by the opportunity to grow with a developing restaurant and food business.
  • Ideally experienced in restaurants, events, pop-ups or other varied food-service environments.
